SUPERSTAR
Did you know that Leon Russell & Bonnie Bramlett wrote the song Groupie, better known by its other name "Superstar" in 1969. Rita Coolidge came up with the idea after observing groupies and their relationships with rock Stars. Leon Russell and Bonnie Bramlett wrote the song, which Bonnie Bramlett recorded it, and it was on the B Side on their song Comin' Home released by Atco Records in the USA, and Atlantic Records in the rest of The World.
In 1971, Richard Carpenter became aware of the song after seeing Bett Middler perform it on The Tonight Show. He made a a new arrangement of the song, with his sister Karen Carpenter singing lead vocals. Superstar by The Carpenters was on the Carpenters album Carpenters, released in May 1971. The song was released as a Single in August 1971, and became a Hug Hit, still loved to this very day (2024) and Beyond.
